Editor’s Pick – Eastex Peony Print

Bold prints are going to be BIG this summer, and our beautiful hand-painted peony print will revitalise your new season wardrobe, adding fresh colour and style.

Eastex hand painted peony print

The Eastex design team took inspiration from the SS17 catwalks which were awash with fabulous florals, with Miu Miu and Kenzo leading the way. Designed and hand painted in our London studio, the graceful and colourful peony was worked into the beautiful painterly floral design.

This floral print takes centre stage in our Spring collections, featured on this beautiful feminine shirt, the perfect update to your wardrobe. We love it teamed with a skirt for work or lunch with the girls, or tuck into relaxed jeans for a pretty off-duty look.

Editor’s Pick – Eastex Leather Messenger Bag

What’s the easiest way to revitalise your new season look we hear you ask? It’s simple, invest in a new hand bag! Trust us, some new arm candy will have you feeling all brand new, and there’s nothing more satisfying than a good hang bag clear out.

Our Editor’s Pick this week is this stunning, minimalist style by Eastex. A beautiful hand-made Leather Messenger Bag made from super soft leather for the ultimate luxurious feel and look. With an adjustable strap, you can choose whether to wear cross-body or simply over your shoulder. Keep all your essentials readily available in the handy front pouch, and zip away your keys and wallet in the lined inside pocket.

We were lucky enough to have a chat with Shani from Etoile Home, who makes each bag by hand in her London studio exclusively for Eastex.

How did you get into hand-making such beautiful bags?

I have always been a fan of beautiful handbags. We started making our printed canvas fabrics into bags with leather details because the patterns were fun and made great accessories.  These are the first all leather bags we have made.

You’ve have crafted our Eastex leather bag by hand, that must take some time! Talk us through your making process.

The team at my London factory are amazing, they use traditional methods to make leather bags. The leather is cut using knives made from the shape of the pattern pieces, then sewn by machine but finished by hand every rivet, every buckle and bit of hardware is attached by hand. Making handbags is a time consuming job but the team are dedicated and do beautiful work..

What do you love most about your craft?

I like to create bags that are simple but elegant, so if they have a print the pattern is really the only detail, if it is all leather the style is in the shape, the beauty of the material and the simplicity of  the hardware.

What does a typical day look like for you, if there is such a thing?

No, everyday is different, I have many roles in my company so I might be designing new prints or art directing a shoot. I might be meeting with a client or sourcing a new supplier to develop new products or visiting one of the factories. I love the diversity of the job and the new challenges each day presents me with.

Who do you look to for design and fabric inspiration?

I love vintage fabric designs for patterns that I can modernise or I search for inspiration in other materials like tiles, rugs or vases. I love Scandinavian Folkloric designs, African wax print fabrics for inspiration shapes and colour combinations. As far as designers I like Ally Capellino, Philip Lim and I find a lot of canvas bag inspiration from Japan.

Any tips for the aspiring bag designer/maker?

Study design, know your materials and do an apprenticeship. That way you are well prepared to create the best possible bags.

Thank you to Shani from Etoile Home for taking the time to chat to us here at Style Diary!

Winter Beauty Hacks

shot_19_131

The cold weather can have an everlasting effect on your skin, hair and just general wellbeing. With the lack of sunlight and vitamin C during the colder months, it is essential you give yourself that little bit more attention. Here are our top 3 beauty pick me ups designed to help you cheat the chill and adapt your daily beauty regime.

1. Moisturise in the shower

With the cold weather brings chapping and dry skin, a good way to eradicate this is to moisturise before you’ve even left the shower! Many skincare brands such as Nivea, do in-shower body creams and washes. Not only do they leave you clean and smelling lovely, they also diminish any dryness whilst your skin is still moist.

 2. Revitalise your lips

With winter comes chapped lips. It’s a given, and the more you try to wet them, the drier they get. Always apply lip balm, oil or Vaseline throughout the day to keep them moist and protect them against the bitterness.

3. De-Frizz your hair

You’d have thought that the heat was the only thing that could damage your hair. This is untrue. During the colder months the icy air and outbursts of rain, snow or even hail can damage your locks, so what do you do in this case, apart from wearing a hat? You give yourself a weekly hair treatment. This could be in the form of an oil or de-fizz spray you apply when the hair is still damp.

Ways To Wear Your Eastex Scarf By Grandmother Pukka

Our favourite accessory this winter is the super chic printed scarf. We’re not thinking about the traditional knitted scarf, but a floaty and beautifully designed brightly printed scarf – the kind that would make you stand out in the crowd and brighten a dark winter wardrobe in true style.

We took to the photography studio with awesome ‘instagran’ Grandmother Pukka, mother to parenting blogger sensation Mother Pukka – to give us some fabulous tips on how to style some of our Autumn/Winter scarves.

The Casual Drape

Simply drape a vibrant scarf over your shoulders to add a pop of colour to your look. Pretty prints give the perfect lift to any outfit and add relaxed style. We love this look for Christmas shopping at the weekend or festive lunch with the girls.
