Lauren from the Style Diary team, recently got married! But instead of going straight on honeymoon, she and her new husband decided to go on a romantic ‘mini-moon’ to the lovely and historic city of Bath instead. Here’s Lauren’s account of what was an amazing, and very romantic, break in Bath.
“Having never been to Bath before, we weren’t sure where to start when initially planning our trip, but a while back a friend of mine recommended The Pig Hotel near Bath and said it was just amazing. About 25 minutes from the town centre, The Pig boasts an historic and classic décor and has a sublime garden out back where they grow natural produce to prepare in their restaurant. With around 28 rooms, we opted for the Comfy Room where we were given a congratulatory bottle of champagne! The surroundings were so beautiful we didn’t want to leave…”
The Pig (near Bath) – Amazing food, fabulous service and the comfiest room we have ever stayed in!
“On the second day of our trip we decided to go and visit the Roman Baths, as it’s an iconic piece of history and it would be a crime not to visit. This is quite embarrassing to admit, but we weren’t sure if we could actually swim at the baths and had to double check on their website beforehand! It turns out you can’t, but that doesn’t matter, the tour is so wonderful and it comes with a free audio guide which explains every little thing you see which is super interesting. It was quite a romantic setting and once we reached the baths at the bottom we made sure to have our photo taken by the water, we also had our photo taken with a Roman gladiator too! We would definitely recommend giving the baths a visit, put aside at least 2 hours for the full experience.”
“On our third day, and seeing as we couldn’t swim at the Roman Baths, we decided to check out the Thermae Spa opposite. The Thermae Spa boasts a rooftop pool, scented steam rooms, hot baths and is the only spa that consists of natural thermal water. We were lucky that the weather was still decent and the rooftop pool was lovely and warm so we could relax and just be… Sessions last approximately 2 hours but you can add an extra hour on at reception if you wish.”
